Meals on Wheels gets $25,000

gala2.jpgHawaii Meals on Wheels has received a $25,000 grant from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation to purchase two cars for the delivery of hot meals to homebound seniors and disabled people.

The grant will purchase two "new and safe" Honda Fit vehicles to continue "our mission of ensuring that those who cannot leave their homes and who cannot cook for themselves receive nutritious hot meals and regular personal interaction," said Claire Shimabukuro, Meals on Wheels executive director.

Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization founded in 1979 that relies on more than 300 volunteers who bring hot meals every weekday to elderly and homebound disabled people on 40 delivery routes throughout Oahu, a release said.

The foundation is the charitable arm of First Hawaiian Bank.
